Campbell River is well known for its sense of community spirit. This is why the Campbell River and District Chamber of Commerce recently unveiled their \u00ab\u00a0FUTURE15 Awards,\u00a0\u00bb a chance to celebrate the volunteer contributions of professionals between the ages of 19 and 45.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural awards recognized the dedication of 15 winners (taken from a pool of 52 nominees), which included a research scientist, a community manager, a local artist and even a Member of Parliament. Also among the winners was FYidoctors’ very own Dr. Tanya Flood, who earned the award in recognition of her volunteer work with the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to her day-to-day work at the FYidoctors Campbell River clinic, for the past 16 years Dr. Flood has been involved in a variety of community projects, including helping to organize the Terry Fox Run, the CR Youth Soccer Association, the CR Children\u2019s Festival, the CR Ignite\/Pacific Sport Program for Young Athletes, the CR Mud\/Run ride and numerous CR Community Foundation golf tournaments. Dr. Flood has also received the top corporate fundraising award for the CR Relay for Life and has been a volunteer optometrist and fundraiser for a Rotary-sponsored eye care project that helps children and migrant farmers in Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n

For the past 11 years, Dr. Flood has also regularly volunteered as an advocate, speaker, council member and fundraiser for the local \u00ab\u00a0Success by 6\u00a0\u00bb initiative, which helps children under the age of 6 who come from disadvantaged families. As part of this program, Dr. Flood volunteers her time at a variety of Children\u2019s Health Fairs, Ready Set Learn programs, preschools and remote communities to provide free eye health screenings and education to those in need. She’s also helped to spearhead FYidoctors Campbell River’s \u00ab\u00a0Better Sight. Better Grades.\u00a0\u00bb program, which provides free eye exams and eyewear to local students from low-income families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
