FYidoctors Reaches Out to Fort McMurray

On May 1st, a wildfire began southwest of the urban service area of Fort McMurray in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Alberta. Since then, over 90,000 people have had to evacuate Fort McMurray. The fire is not showing signs of slowing down even as firefighters heroically battle the flames. As a result, aid efforts are in full swing for the evacuated residents and employees of Fort McMurray, but many are still without basic necessities.

How FYidoctors is Helping
We know that many residents were forced to evacuate without any possessions—including their glasses or contact lenses irrespective of brands (Acuvue, Air Optix etc). That’s why all residents and employees of Fort McMurray who left their eyewear behind can go into *any* FYidoctors location across Canada and receive a FREE pair of glasses, 2 pairs of trial contact lenses, an eye prescription check and treatment for any emergency eye health issues*. Fort Mac residents in Edmonton can also get free Hylo Dual Eye Drops to help with treatment from smoke exposure (drops donated by Candorvision). You can find the nearest FYidoctors clinic by visiting our Locations Page.

How You Can Help
We encourage you to donate to the Canadian Red Cross, which is providing much needed food, medical aid and supplies to displaced residents from Fort McMurray. All donations are also matched by the Canadian government. You can donate instantly by texting REDCROSS to 30333. To learn more, visit the Red Cross donation page.

You can also drop off supplies and donations to FYidoctors’ Fort Saskatchewan, St. Albert and West Edmonton Mall locations, which are being collected to deliver to the evacuation centre in Northlands and for people who are displaced by the fire.
